Paddling On the Hudson

Today some friends from work and I paddled on the Hudson. They had Kayaks, I had a canoe. It was tough going for the tide was coming in strong and the waves coming down the Hudson were rather large. Then there was the wind.

Gerry and Junior get ready to go from Waryas Park.

That's Junior in front of the Walkway Over the Hudson.

Gerry.

Finn, in my canoe. Nice face, kid.

Gerry and Don.
Roggie.

Don helps Roger bail his kayak. He spilled twice, and we had to make sure he lost as much water as possible to prevent a third tip.

Haze

On a clearer day you can see the mountains all around the Ashokan Reservoir. Today it was very hazy, and I think the area around the reservoir got some thunderstorms after we left.

We drove across the reservoir after tubing the Esopus and walking around Woodstock.

A Day At the Beach

A crappy day at the beach beats a good day at work any day. We went to Long Beach, NY and met with some friends.

Cara and her friend Brianna played in the sand.

Andy and Maureen showed up with their son, Colin.

A haggard horseshoe crab showed up. He was being hounded by some gulls as if they knew he was going to die soon. Judging by the growth on him, he seems old.

These are some fishing vessels along the back bay at Point Lookout.

Message For British Petroleum

I hope your stock plummets. I hope you go bankrupt. I hope someone sneaks into your house and puts oil in your water tank, then when you ask to get it out the plumber tells you five different ways he's going to try and stop it while it flows all over your floor.

Cara Tries the Ladder Climb

Memorial Day Monday In Central Park

Finn and I spent a the day in his favorite park. He loves the Heckscher playground, the lake, pedicabs, and a lot of other things we did not get to see.

The playground has a lot of water fountains and other stuff to get wet in.

I sat on a huge outcropping of Manhattan Schist that overlooks the park. Finn loves to climb in the park.

Here is a closeup of the bedrock of the city:

Jennifer Handing a Squirrel a Peanut

I know, Laura, I owe you pictures of Fifi, but this is Cara and Jennifer's latest obsession.
